## From the vendor

Mailprotector is an email security suite from Mailprotector for managed service providers, sold only through MSP partners rather than direct to the businesses that use it. The line is split into several named products rather than one bundle: Shield handles phishing, malware and impersonation detection for Microsoft 365 using a combination of gateway and API-based scanning; CloudFilter does the same job for any mail platform, including Google Workspace, on-premises servers and mixed environments, by taking over MX records; Bracket adds email encryption triggered by a subject-line marker such as square brackets; SecureStore is journaling-based archiving with configurable retention, defaulting to seven years, aimed at PCI, HIPAA, GLBA and SOX compliance; and XtraMail keeps a rolling 30-day copy of mail for continuity during an outage, though it requires CloudFilter to be in place first. CloudFilter also includes outbound data loss prevention rules and quarantine that end users can review and release themselves. Mailprotector does not publish pricing for any product; every product page directs buyers to contact sales or book a demo, and the site offers free NFR licences so partners can evaluate the products before deploying them to clients, rather than a conventional public free trial (checked September 2026). There is no free tier. The company was founded in 2000 and is based in Greenville, South Carolina, and describes itself as partner-first with over two decades in the MSP channel rather than selling around its partners. It integrates directly with ConnectWise PSA and Autotask, syncing licensed mailbox counts into contracts, and reconciles billing with a wider set of PSAs, including HaloPSA, Kaseya BMS, Syncro and Pulseway, through Gradient MSP. An MSP should confirm which specific product or combination it needs, since Shield and CloudFilter cover different platforms and are not interchangeable, and should ask directly for a per-mailbox price and any minimum mailbox commitment, since none of this is published. There is no dedicated DMARC monitoring product, attachment sandboxing feature or security awareness training bundle in the current line-up, so an MSP that needs those would have to pair Mailprotector with a separate tool.

## Our take

Mailprotector is worth a look for an MSP that wants a genuinely channel-only vendor rather than one that also sells direct, and the free NFR licences make it easy to run internally before pitching a client. The catch is that pricing is quote-only everywhere, so budgeting means picking up the phone rather than reading a page, and the product line is split across several named tools (Shield for Microsoft 365, CloudFilter for everything else, Bracket, SecureStore, XtraMail) that need to be matched to what a client actually runs. Compare it against SpamTitan or Sophos Email, both of which publish more about coverage and support, and check specifically whether you need DMARC monitoring or security awareness training, since Mailprotector does not offer either and you would need a second product.

## FAQ

### How much does Mailprotector cost?

Mailprotector does not publish a list price. No MSP price reports have been approved yet.

### Does Mailprotector offer a free trial?

There is no free version.

### What does Mailprotector integrate with?

Mailprotector lists integrations with ConnectWise PSA, Autotask, Gradient MSP, HaloPSA, Kaseya BMS and Syncro.

### Is Mailprotector cloud or on-premises?

Mailprotector is cloud-hosted; there is no on-premises version.

### Is Mailprotector priced per mailbox?

Mailprotector does not publish a per-mailbox price or any other price on its website. Every product page directs buyers to contact sales or book a demo, so an MSP has to ask a Mailprotector account manager directly for per-mailbox cost and any minimum mailbox commitment before it can budget for the product.

### Can I buy Mailprotector directly, or only through an MSP?

Mailprotector sells only through MSP partners rather than direct to the businesses that end up using its email security. A business cannot buy Mailprotector itself; it would need to be a client of an MSP that resells it. Mailprotector describes itself as partner-first with over two decades in the channel.

### Does Mailprotector work with Google Workspace, or only Microsoft 365?

It depends which Mailprotector product is used. Shield is built specifically for Microsoft 365, combining API-based scanning with gateway protection, with Google Workspace support described by the vendor as planned rather than available now. CloudFilter, a separate product in the same line, works with any mail platform, including Google Workspace, on-premises servers and mixed environments, by taking over MX records.

### What is the difference between Mailprotector Shield and CloudFilter?

Shield and CloudFilter are separate Mailprotector products rather than tiers of the same one. Shield is built only for Microsoft 365 and layers API-based scanning on top of gateway filtering, with features such as a colour-coded Heads-Up Display and in-inbox Lockbox encryption. CloudFilter is platform-agnostic and works with any mail server via MX records, and includes SafeSend outbound DLP and self-service quarantine. An MSP should pick based on whether a client is Microsoft 365 only or runs a mixed environment.

### Does Mailprotector integrate with ConnectWise or Autotask for billing?

Yes. Mailprotector integrates directly with ConnectWise PSA and Autotask, syncing licensed mailbox counts into contracts so an MSP does not have to update quantities by hand. It also reconciles billing with a wider set of PSAs, including HaloPSA, Kaseya BMS, Syncro and Pulseway, through the Gradient MSP platform.
