Hornetsecurity 365 Total Protection is a Microsoft 365 security suite from Hornetsecurity, a Proofpoint company, for MSPs and businesses that want email filtering, backup and compliance in one product rather than several point tools. It covers spam and malware filtering, phishing and business email compromise detection, attachment sandboxing and one-click quarantine release on the email security side; a Microsoft 365 backup covering mailboxes, Teams chats, OneDrive and SharePoint with configurable retention and version history; and email archiving plus DMARC, DKIM and SPF controls and a policy-based compliance filter for regulatory needs such as GDPR. It suits managed service providers running many Microsoft 365 tenants, since Hornetsecurity's 365 Multi Tenant Manager and a centralised console let a partner apply security baselines and monitor compliance across client tenants from one place, and its channel is built around more than 12,000 MSP and reseller partners rather than direct-only sales.

The product is sold in four tiers, from a foundation email security plan up to a bundle that adds unlimited-storage Microsoft 365 backup, security awareness training and AI-based recipient validation, but Hornetsecurity does not publish a price for any tier on its own site (checked September 2026); an MSP has to request a quote or trial through a partner or the vendor directly to see a figure. A free trial is available, and there is no free version for ongoing use. Hornetsecurity also sells Microsoft 365 backup on its own as 365 Total Backup, so an MSP that only needs backup and not the email security layer does not have to buy the combined suite.

MSPs already using Proofpoint Essentials, or evaluating a switch, should ask how the two product lines are positioned relative to each other now they share an owner, and should get an exact per-mailbox or per-user price and confirm which of the four tiers actually includes backup and awareness training before comparing the total cost against a Microsoft Defender for Office 365 plus separate backup setup.

365 Total Protection suits an MSP that wants email security, Microsoft 365 backup and archiving from one vendor rather than stitching together separate tools, particularly one already managing many M365 tenants through Hornetsecurity's multi-tenant console. Because pricing is quote-only, get an exact per-mailbox price and confirm which of the four tiers actually includes backup and security awareness training before comparing it against Microsoft Defender for Office 365 with a separate backup tool, or against Proofpoint Essentials, now a sibling product under the same owner.
